Description

This is a United States Army Air Corps Type B-5 winter flying helmet from the World War II era. The helmet is constructed from multi-panel brown leather with a full interior lining of thick, natural cream-colored sheepskin. It features a sheepskin-lined leather chin strap secured by a metal buckle. The exterior includes various leather tabs and metal attachment points, including snaps and loops, designed for the attachment of flight goggles and oxygen mask equipment. White cotton pull-cords are located at the base of the neck for fit adjustment. A small black woven fabric label is sewn into the interior sheepskin lining with yellow-gold embroidery. The label contains the following text: TYPE B-5, DWG. NO. 326415, A.C. 18039. The construction techniques, including specific seam patterns and hardware, are consistent with 1940s military flight gear production. Scarce Pattern
