Description
United States Army Air Forces intermediate flight ensemble consisting of a Type A-11 leather flight helmet and a pair of AN 6530 flight goggles. The helmet is constructed from dark brown goatskin leather with a full chamois lining. The left side of the helmet displays a gold-colored USAAF decal with the winged star insignia and the text Army Air Forces. An interior black woven label with gold-yellow text identifies the piece as Type A-11, Spec. No. 3189, Size Medium, P.O. No. (33-038) 44-6548-AF, manufactured by Bradley-Goodrich Inc. The helmet is equipped with black rubber ear cups for communication headsets, a leather chin strap with a metal buckle, and three snap-button oxygen mask attachment points on each side. The accompanying AN 6530 goggles feature a nickel-plated metal frame with the model designation stamped into the bridge. The goggles are fitted with amber-tinted lenses and a buff-colored face cushion. A black elasticized fabric strap is attached to the frame.
