This is a World War II era United States Navy khaki cotton twill working cap, manufactured in the pattern frequently identified as the Type B-1 summer flying cap. The garment is constructed from khaki cotton twill and features a multi-panel crown with a long, stiffened visor. The interior contains a leather sweatband and an original white cloth manufacturer label. The label is printed with Spec. No. 9, Contract N288s-4, and ZIP-A-BAG CORPORATION. The N288s prefix identifies this as a US Navy Bureau of Supplies and Accounts contract, likely dating to 1944. The interior fabric features a vertical black ink stencil identifying the original owner as R. E. WARDEN with the rank of S 1 C (Seaman First Class).
