Spring Military Aviation and Militaria Auction
Lot 243:
Description
This is an Imperial German Model 1916 or Model 1917 steel combat helmet shell, featuring the traditional coal scuttle design. The piece is manufactured from pressed steel and includes the distinctive high-domed crown and extended neck guard. Two stepped ventilation lugs, or Stirnpanzerhaltebolzen, are present on the sides of the crown, which originally served as mounting points for the Stirnpanzer armored plate. The interior retains three liner-retaining rivets and one metal chin strap attachment bracket. Traces of original dark field-gray paint are visible on the surface. The interior rear skirt is marked with the hand-painted name HURST+ in white pigment. No factory-stamped maker or size codes are visible due to heavy oxidation.
