Description
This is a World War II era United States Army M1 steel combat helmet featuring the hand-painted insignia of the 2nd Infantry Division, known as the Indianhead division. The helmet shell is an early-production model characterized by a front-seam stainless steel rim and fixed rectangular chin strap bails. The exterior retains an olive drab paint finish with a textured cork application. The front of the shell displays the 2nd Infantry Division emblem consisting of a black shield containing a white five-pointed star with a Native American profile in the center. The high-pressure plastic liner was manufactured by the Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company, indicated by the stylized letter W within an oval stamped into the interior crown. The liner interior features a khaki and olive drab herringbone twill webbing suspension system secured with unpainted steel A-washers. It includes a period-correct adjustable leather sweatband and a fabric nape strap. The shell is fitted with original olive drab canvas chin straps equipped with a brass T-1 pressure buckle.
