Description
A circular commemorative ceramic plaque featuring a transfer-printed maritime scene after the work of German marine artist Willy Stower. The illustration depicts a Kaiserliche Marine submarine in the foreground with crew members visible on the conning tower and a lone sailor on the deck. In the background, a merchant vessel is shown sinking stern-first with smoke emanating from the hull. The plaque is constructed of glazed ceramic and is mounted in a later circular polished wood frame. The reverse of the ceramic features a modern handwritten notation in black ink reading WWI. There are no original manufacturer marks, factory stamps, or artist signatures present. The plaque is secured in the frame by four metal clips and includes four felt pads for wall protection.
