Description
WWII Memory Plate Harry Schwartz 9th Bomb Squadron. This lot features a World War II-era memorial plaque and original service documentation dedicated to Harry Schwartz of the U.S. Army Air Forces. The circular plaque is constructed from a commercial aluminum plate manufactured by Kensington Ware, a subsidiary of Alcoa. The reverse of the plate bears the incised maker mark consisting of a crown over a stylized letter K beside the word Kensington in script. The front of the plaque features several applied metal components. At the top is a set of silver-toned U.S. Army Air Forces pilot wings. The center contains a raised circular medallion with a darkened bronze-tone finish depicting the twelve signs of the zodiac in relief. The central field of this medallion is hand-engraved with the inscription IN MEMORY OF HARRY SCHWARTZ FROM NINTH BOMB SQDN. A small two-blade metal propeller is fixed below the inscription. The 9th Bombardment Squadron (Heavy) was a unit of the 7th Bombardment Group known for operations in the China-Burma-India Theater. Accompanying the plaque is an original Selective Service Registration Card (D.S.S. Form 1) for Harry Schwartz, born November 12, 1915, in New Haven, Connecticut. The card is dated October 16, 1940, and includes his signature and service number 20263763. Also included is a digital printout of a military medical record from March 1945 showing Schwartz’s admission to a facility in Indiana, listing his branch as Air Force, Other Service Support Units (non-flying).Diameter: 12 inches.
