Description
This collection documents the military service and post-war historical aviation activities of Sergeant David L. Beiter. The archive includes a pair of M1940-pattern notched stainless steel identification tags on a ball chain. The tags are stamped: DAVID L BEITER / 12081129 T42 43 AB. The stamping indicates a service number of 12081129, tetanus toxoid immunization dates in 1942 and 1943, and blood type AB. The collection also contains an original WD AGO Form 53-55 (Enlisted Record and Report of Separation) that has been laminated. The document identifies Beiter as a Sergeant (SGT) in the 586th Engineer Squadron, 73rd Service Group, United States Army Air Forces. Service records indicate induction on May 29, 1942, and foreign service in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater (APT) from March 16, 1945, to December 14, 1945. Decorations listed include the American Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Post-war items include memorabilia from the Confederate Air Force (now the Commemorative Air Force) Ghost Squadron. This includes a black nameplate with white lettering and the CAF wings logo reading DAVID L. BEITER / COL CAF, and a large registrant pinback button for Airsho 84.
