Description
A collection of World War II-era ephemera and personal photographs primarily documenting the service of a Royal Air Force member during the 1940s. The lot includes military-issued greeting cards such as a 1943 Xmas Greetings from the Royal Air Force Middle East and a No. 74 Trinidad Squadron card featuring the squadron crest and motto Fear No Man. A 1944 holiday card depicts a victory-themed classical statue with flags. The photographic component consists of numerous black-and-white silver gelatin prints depicting servicemen in tropical, desert, and winter attire, along with group shots and architectural landmarks. Travel memorabilia includes a large luggage label for the Majestic Hotel at 19 Avenue Kleber in Paris and several illustrated postcards of Paris landmarks including the Eiffel Tower, Montmartre, and Notre-Dame. Also included is a card titled at the Galle Face, referencing the hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Three small-format pin-up illustrations in mid-century styles and a Keep em Flying V for Victory card are also present.
