Description
A collection of three vintage evening purses. One silver-tone flat metal mesh clutch features a rectangular frame with a top-press snap closure. The interior is lined in silver-tone satin fabric and contains a sewn-in white fabric label that reads Whiting – Davis Since 1876. The second item is a fine silver-tone mesh gate-top or beggars bag characterized by an expanding accordion-style trellis opening and a solid circular hinged lid, finished with a braided metal chain handle. This style is consistent with early 20th-century designs by makers such as Whiting – Davis. The third item is an Art Deco style beaded evening bag featuring horizontal bands of black and metallic silver-tone seed beads and a looped fringe at the base. The ornate silver-tone frame is decorated with embossed scrollwork and a kiss-lock clasp, suspended from a linked metal chain.
