Description

This curated collection features nine vintage evening bags, vanity bags, and coin purses from the Edwardian and Art Deco periods, circa 1900 to 1935, professionally mounted in a shadowbox frame. Based on visual characteristics and market consensus, the items are attributed to prominent makers such as Whiting and Davis and Mandalian Manufacturing Co. The set showcases a variety of metalwork and enameling techniques, including enameled armor mesh comprised of flat linked tiles, silver-tone and gold-tone ring mesh or chainmail, and micro-beaded glass. The assortment includes four rectangular armor mesh purses decorated with enameled geometric and stylized floral patterns in a palette of cream, sage green, sky blue, and black. A notable vanity or dance bag positioned in the top center features a blue and white checkered mesh body and a rectangular silver-tone lid inset with an oval silhouette depicting a dancing couple in an 18th-century style. Also included is a large gold-tone armor mesh bag with an ornate floral scrollwork frame, a long silver-tone ring mesh purse with an envelope-style top and floral patterns worked into the base, and a micro-beaded bag with a chevron pattern and beaded fringe on a brass frame. Two coin purses complete the group: one gold-tone armor mesh with a turret-style closure and one small silver-tone ring mesh with an engraved frame. The items feature decorative metal frames with Art Deco geometric motifs and Edwardian scrollwork, and most retain their original metal chain handles. Frame Dimensions: Approximately 16 x 20 inches.
