Description
This mid-century modernist landscape is a watercolor on paper with gouache highlights by Harold Mundorff 1894-1961 . The composition features a rustic red house or barn framed by rounded green trees and partially obscured by large, billowy, cloud-like forms in shades of blue and white, which the artist identifies as lilacs in the notes on the verso. A thin white crescent moon and a single dark vertical pole are positioned against a pale blue sky. The work is executed in an expressive, rhythmic style characteristic of American regionalist modernism. The painting is signed H. Mundorff and dated 50 in the upper left corner.
