Description
This mid-to-late 19th-century portrait, likely oil on board or panel, depicts a middle-aged gentleman with dark hair and a full beard. The subject is dressed in formal attire consisting of a black coat and a white high-collared shirt. The painting is executed in a realist academic style with controlled brushwork and a dark, neutral background. The work is set within a rectangular gilded wood and composition frame featuring a central oval sight edge. The frame is decorated with textured spandrels, four raised circular bosses, and high-relief fruit and leaf moldings at the corners. The reverse shows a dark-toned backing panel secured with nails and the frame’s original rough-hewn wood structure. A small white inventory label marked K-78 is present on the lower right front of the frame. No signature or date is visible on the face of the painting.
