Hand carved from dense dark hardwood, this impressive bust depicts an Indigenous Andean/Inca man wearing a traditional patterned headdress with geometric zigzag and stepped motifs, a short fringe of bangs across the forehead, and hanging side ornaments. The face is strongly stylized with almond-shaped eyes, high cheekbones, and full lips. Contrasting blue-green pigment accents the eyes and recessed areas of the carving. The sculpture is signed and inscribed on the reverse M. Saravia Z. La Paz, Bolivia and is mounted on a stone-topped wooden pedestal.
