Hand-carved from dense dark hardwood, this impressive bust depicts an Indigenous Andean/Inca woman with finely incised hair, long braided locks falling over the shoulders, and strongly stylized facial features. Contrasting blue-green pigment accents the eyes and the recessed areas of the carving. The sculpture is signed and inscribed on the reverse M. Saravia Z. La Paz, Bolivia and is mounted on a stone-topped wooden pedestal.
