Original WWII U.S. Army Field Ration, Type C B-1 Unit food tin, packed by Van Brode Milling Co., Inc.The olive-drab cylindrical steel can is prominently marked:“B-1 UNIT / CRACKERS / COCOA / JAM / VAN BRODE MILLING CO., INC.”The B-unit formed the bread and supplementary component of the U.S. Army C-ration, complementing the canned meat portion of the meal. During World War II, B-unit combinations included crackers along with beverage and spread items such as cocoa and jam. The approximately 3-inch-diameter can retains its original olive-drab finish and separate metal opening key. Exterior condition shows scattered scratches, small areas of oxidation, handling wear and age while retaining exceptionally clear black printed identification.
