WWII-Pattern U.S. Airborne Paratrooper Helmet Liner Chin Cups, Lot of Four (4), Molded Leather with Chamois Lining and Punched Eyelet Adjustment Tabs – M-2/M-1C Helmet Liner Configuration Offered here is a grouping of four molded leather chin cups of the type fitted to U.S. Army airborne helmet liners during the Second World War, used to secure the M-2 and later M-1C helmets against the shock loads of a parachute jump. No maker markings, unit provenance, or paperwork accompany the lot, and no separate biography can be attached to the pieces; they are catalogued here as representative examples of a well-known airborne accessory rather than as attributed to any single soldier or outfit. The standard M-1 helmet liner, adequate for the infantryman on the ground, proved unreliable for paratroopers, whose helmets were prone to shifting or departing the head entirely during the opening shock of a parachute deployment or a hard landing.
