Fall 2026 Militaria and Aviation Auction
Lot 356:
Description
WWII U.S. Quick Attach Chest (QAC) Parachute Ensemble – Harness with Back Pad Part No. 42D2013, 24-Foot Chest Pack, and Frog-Skin Camouflage Canopy is just filler and not an actual parachute. Dated 1945. Additional original cargo camo canopy included. Offered is a complete Second World War Quick Attach Chest parachute ensemble of the type issued to American aircrew, comprising the pale webbing harness with its stenciled rectangular back pad, the associated 24-foot chest pack, and a striking multi-tone camouflage canopy. The QAC system answered a real problem aboard American bombers and transports: rather than wearing a bulky pack strapped on at all times, the aircrewman could move freely through the cramped confines of a B-17, B-24, or C-47 wearing only the harness and back pad, snapping the heavier chest pack onto the front D-rings only when an emergency demanded it. Types such as the AN6513 and A-3 series entered widespread USAAF and Navy service from around 1942, manufactured and inspected under numerous wartime contracts and depot codes. The camouflage canopy in this lot, cut in the mottled, multi-hued pattern, represents a distinct evolution in aerial recovery gear utilized by specialized aviation units.
