Lot 384:
Description
WWII German Luftwaffe Seat-Type Parachute Pack Tray, Baumuster 30 IS 24 B SA (Fl. 30231), with accompanying Fallschirm-Pruefschein logbook Werk-Nr. 2019343 ink-stamped to E-Stelle Rechlin. Offered here is a Luftwaffe seat-pack parachute tray of the 30 IS 24 B SA pattern, the standard Sitzfallschirm carried by single-seat fighter and dive-bomber pilots flying aircraft fitted with bucket-type cockpit seats – the Bf 109, Fw 190, and Ju 87 among them. The pack’s sewn fabric label identifies the Geraet as Sitzfallschirm, Baumuster 30 IS 24 B SA, Anforderz. Fl. 30231, though its handwritten Werk-Nr. and Hersteller fields were left blank at issue. Accompanying the pack is its original blue cardstock Fallschirm-Pruefschein, recording Werk-Nr. 2019343 and bearing an ink stamp for E-Stelle Rechlin, the Luftwaffe’s principal flight-test and technical proving establishment – a marking that elevates this beyond a standard front-line survivor into a documented piece of Luftwaffe research equipment. The 30 IS 24 series was developed from the pre-war Irvin-pattern seat parachute under license and became the backbone of Luftwaffe emergency egress equipment, prized for its compact profile suited to the confined cockpits of single-seat fighters and dive-bombers. Rechlin, on the Mueritz lake in Mecklenburg, served from the 1930s as the Luftwaffe’s foremost proving ground for aircraft, engines, weapons, and personal flight equipment, and gear documented there carries a markedly higher research pedigree than ordinary squadron issue. The Pruefschein’s Waffenamt acceptance stamp is dated 14 July 1943, with the weight recorded as 10.5 kg and maximum service speed listed as 400 km/h. Subsequent handwritten packing entries continue in regular sequence through 1944 – dated 16 August, 23 September, 3 November, and into the following year at 22 February, 23 March, 2 May, and 6 June 1944 – each countersigned by a packer and stamped with official verification.
