Lot 419:
Description
US Military Flight & Parachutist Helmet Grouping: Gentex-Style HGU-55/P Fixed-Wing Helmet with Tinted Visor and Boom Microphone, together with a Special Operations HALO/Parachutist Kevlar Helmet Rigged with Scott MBU-5/P Oxygen Mask Assembly This lot brings together two distinct branches of US military aircrew life-support equipment: a lightweight fixed-wing flight helmet of HGU-55/P pattern, complete with tinted visor and attached boom microphone, and a Kevlar-shelled parachutist helmet configured for High Altitude Low Opening (HALO) operations and fitted with a Scott MBU-5/P pressure-demand oxygen mask. The significance of the grouping rests in the equipment itself and its documented type and configuration. The HGU-55/P was developed by Gentex Corporation in the late 1970s as a lighter successor to earlier helmet designs, engineered to meet the physiological demands of high-G aerial combat.
