Description

Offered here is an M40-pattern German combat helmet produced by Emaillierwerke A.G., Fulda, identified by the interior EF64 maker and shell-size marking. The helmet retains the characteristic M40 construction, featuring a rolled lower edge and ventilation openings stamped integrally into the steel shell. The wearer’s right side carries an SS runic shield, which displays age-related abrasion and surface wear. The opposite side retains remnants of the national party shield, which appears heavily obscured beneath period-applied dark overpaint. This condition is consistent with wartime regulations that mandated the removal or concealment of national insignia to reduce battlefield visibility. The shell retains a dark field-grey textured finish with scattered oxidation, surface mottling, and age-appropriate wear. Stamped into the rear neck skirt is the heat-lot number 58454. Inside the dome, the helmet features reddish Gothic-script inscriptions referencing an SS-Standarte and the word "Deutschland." These inscriptions are presented as found and serve as a point of historic interest. The helmet is completed by a leather liner and chinstrap, both showing age, discoloration, and wear consistent with extended service and storage. The M40 Stahlhelm remains an iconic artifact of the middle war years, and this example offers a compelling visual profile of field-used Waffen-SS equipment. Sold As- Is
