Description
This personal military archive documents the service of 1st Lieutenant Harry A. Pate, a pilot with the United States Army Air Forces during World War II and the United States Air Force in the immediate post-war period. The collection consists of a tooled photo album, approximately 40 to 50 black-and-white photographs, and official military records. Primary documents include a WD AGO Form 100 Separation Qualification Record for Harry A. Pate (Service No. O 2011807) of Elkhart, Indiana, which identifies him as a pilot of B-17, B-24, and A-20 aircraft, as well as a blind approach instructor and flight commander at Romulus Army Air Field. Also included is an Honorable Discharge certificate for Staff Sergeant Harry A. Pate (AF 15 212 387) dated November 2, 1948.The photographic content features significant aviation interest, including close-up views of B-17 Flying Fortress nose art titled Luscious Lady and a P-40 Warhawk with shark mouth nose art. Several images document international cooperation, showing an RAF Short Stirling bomber (serial number DV822) and USAAF personnel interacting with members of the Royal Air Force. Numerous candid photographs depict Pate and fellow officers in A-2 leather flight jackets and service uniforms. One A-2 jacket is clearly visible with hand-painted chest markings for HRPATE and ELKHART, IND. Additional scenes include cockpit interiors, military ceremonies, and daily life on base. The photo album features a brown cover embossed with a tank, a jeep, and an aircraft.
