Lot 245:
Description
This is a German Model 1917 (M17) Stahlhelm steel combat helmet, characterized by its flared coal-scuttle shape and prominent stepped ventilation lugs on the sides of the crown. These lugs were designed to serve as mounting points for a reinforced brow plate or Stirnpanzer. The interior features a three-pad leather liner system mounted to a metal liner band, a configuration specific to the M17 pattern. The interior skirt retains two M.91 chinstrap mounting posts. Faint stamped characters are visible on the left interior skirt, including the digit 6, likely indicating a shell size of 64 or 66, and a partial character resembling an E or T. The helmet is constructed of stamped steel and retains traces of original field gray and green paint.
