Description
This original 1944 United States Office of War Information (OWI) propaganda poster is titled Careless Talk Got There First and features artwork by Herbert Morton Stoops. The illustration depicts an American paratrooper with an M1 carbine, shown slumped in his parachute harness during a combat jump. The background illustrates additional paratroopers and C-47 transport aircraft. The poster was printed by the U.S. Government Printing Office. The lower left margin is marked U. S. GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE : 1944?O?593271. The lower right margin is marked DISTRIBUTED FOR THE ISSUING AGENCIES BY O. W. The artist signature Herbert Morton Stoops is located in the lower right corner of the artwork. This lot includes the original mailing envelope and an informational insert. The envelope is marked OFFICIAL WAR POSTER and is addressed to F. M. Caffney, 57 Main St., Leominster, Mass. The envelope also bears the mark OFF-13. The informational insert provides a biography of Herbert Morton Stoops, noting his service as a battery commander in World War I.
