Description
Large and varied lot of original US military insignia, comprising over 100 individual pieces, making it an ideal acquisition for advanced collectors or dealers. The collection offers a vast array of unit crests Distinctive Unit Insignia or DUI, officer and enlisted rank insignia, and standard collar brass, spanning from the post-WWII era into the modern period.
The collection is highlighted by a rich selection of DUI unit crests, many of which are enameled and represent various branches and commands, including Signal Corps, Field Artillery, Infantry, and Specialized Commands. Notable examples include multiple crests from the 8th Infantry Division featuring the black bear on a red and black shield, numerous armored and artillery formations, and an intricate shield for Allied Naval Forces Southern Europe. Specific pieces also identify units like the 34th Infantry with the inscription NORMANDY TO THE ELBE, signifying WWII service history.
A major portion of the collection consists of Collar Brass, featuring over 25 individual US pins in both gold-tone and silver-tone metal, intended for wear on the uniform collar. The lot includes a deep assortment of Officer Rank Insignia Leaf and Bar. There are several examples of the Major Rank Oak Leaf in both gold-tone and silver-tone for the Lieutenant Colonel Rank, including multiple clusters of the Oak Leaf. Also present are numerous Captain Rank silver bars and Lieutenant Rank gold bars, with some pieces showing a desirable clutch-back fastener system.
Further included are numerous Shoulder Sleeve Insignia SSI pins, representing various Divisions and Corps such as the 1st Army A, the 2nd Infantry Division Indian Head, the 7th Infantry Division Hourglass, and the 100th Division.
