Description

This is an authentic and extremely rare piece of U.S. Naval Aviation equipment from the World War II era: an Aircraft Float Light Marker MK. 4. This device was essential for maritime air operations, typically dropped by aircraft to mark the location of a downed pilot, a submerged submarine, or a target at sea, producing a bright flare or smoke when it hit the water. The marker features a wooden body finished in its original bright orange/yellow color, indicating an early production or training version, and has a rounded metal nose and metal stabilizing fins at the tail.
The wooden body is clearly stenciled with the model designation AIRCRAFT FLOAT LIGHT MK. 4 and a legible date mark 12-42 December 1942, firmly placing its manufacture within the pivotal first year of U.S. involvement in World War II. The markings also include the manufacturer or lot code LOT 2-319 and the initials G. H. B.. The float light is in remarkable condition given its age, showing only light wear and oxidation on the metal components. Its unique function and clear WWII-era markings make this an outstanding piece of U.S. Navy and aviation signaling equipment.
