Oil on canvas depicting a serious gentleman with brown hair and full beard, dressed in a dark coat and white shirt with black bow tie, seated against a muted background. Presented in an ornate gilt frame with fruit and floral decoration at the corners, the portrait exemplifies the sober yet dignified style of mid-19th century American portraiture. Dimensions: approx. 32 x 26 in. (frame), 24 x 20 in. (sight). Condition: Surface with minor abrasions and craquelure; frame with losses and wear, cracks, and old repairs; stable overall and suitable for display. Relined and stabilized on later stretcher.
