Description
Oil on canvas portrait of a seated woman in a dark dress adorned with gold clasps and a fine white lace collar, set before a draped red curtain with landscape visible at left. The sitter?s serene expression and finely rendered lace detailing highlight the refinement typical of mid-19th century American portraiture. Housed in a gilt wood frame of period style. Inscribed faintly along the stretcher verso, possibly identifying the sitter or artist. Dimensions: approx. 34 x 28 in. (frame), 29 x 23 in. (sight). Condition: Craquelure, scattered abrasions, and surface losses; frame with wear and losses; canvas appears relined on later stretcher. Stable overall and displays well. Provenance: From a private collection, upstate New York.
