December 7th Militaria and Aviation Auction
Lot 274:
Description
This is an original and authentic United States Marine Corps USMC P-41 Pattern 1941 Utility Jacket, crafted from durable Herringbone Twill HBT fabric. This jacket is the definitive utility uniform worn by U.S. Marines throughout the Pacific campaigns of World War Two, from Guadalcanal through Iwo Jima, and it continued service into the Korean War.
The jacket is identified by its classic three-pocket design: one chest pocket and two large patch pockets at the waist. The material is the signature Olive Drab HBT weave, known for its resilience and comfort in warm climates. The most desirable feature for collectors is the clear, black stenciling on the left chest pocket, prominently displaying the letters USMC centered over the iconic Eagle, Globe, and Anchor EGA insignia. This specific stencil and three-pocket configuration are the hallmark of the P-41 uniform.
The coat features a button-up front closure with all buttons present and displays genuine field-worn character. The HBT fabric shows fading and discoloration consistent with decades of service and storage, giving it an appealing, used patina. The construction is solid and complete. This piece is a quintessential representation of the Marine Corps uniform during the most critical periods of the 20th century, making it a foundation piece for any World War Two Pacific Theater collection.
